Feynman-2

Today, we're announcing Feynman-2, our new system for a reasoning-powered agentic AI education. Starting today, all Opennote learners will be upgraded to Feynman-2, receiving a more accurate, interactive, and multimodal user experience.

We've taken significant feedback from over 100,000+ chats served through Feynman-1, and conducted thorough testing between multiple models that we've seen in the classroom, we've developed our own in-house toolkit and model integrations that synthesize the best user experiences, allowing Feynman-2 to outperform in interactive content and become an industry leader in the education space.

Student-first Building

Viewing the state of education today, it's clear that the future is AI-powered. From classroom to dorm room, AI is being used across the board for building understanding, getting homework help, and more. But the sole modality for education technology is still text-to-text, with a consistent emphasis on pure accuracy and answers versus facilitating end-to-end learning.

At the moment, most chatbots can always say something, but aren't able to do things that actually engage users. And with today's state-of-the-art models, it's clear that intelligence is not what's bottlenecking the quality of user experiences with AI, but rather the agency baked into those systems.

Students incorporate hundreds of tools, ideas, learning strategies, and gain many different perspectives throughout their educational journeys, and Feynman-2 has been built around the philosophy that there are infinitely many ways to solve, search, explain, and visualize content to students, all while remembering their journey as they practice and learn on Opennote. Feynman-2 is also our first model supporting problem-solving on the platform, with students now able to use the Problems Canvas to have Feynman-2 track their progress and understanding as they work.

Model Response Toolkit

Feynman-2 enhances all outputs to users, with higher observability into what the model is doing under the hood, and is our second model with Streamed Responses after DeepTutor. Feynman-2 also enhances the readability of response content, and provides better answers with appropriate usage of Markdown for text organization, alongside enhancing accuracy with multiple layers preceding response delivery.

With the ability to deliver blazingly fast responses through our partnership with Groq, Feynman-2 has the following capabilities available to all users:

• Web Search provides factual and accurate response delivery, with the ability to reach web sources up to the past 24 hours.
• The Solve Tool provides a fine-tuned and enhanced experience for complex reasoning and problem solving, especially targeting college students in STEM-heavy disciplines.
• Visualizations include graphs, charts, diagrams on the free tier, allowing users to get a display of their content.
• Limited Memory allows for Feynman-2 to retain information about you. This enhances responses by tracking your educational journey and progress on the platform.
  • You can opt out of memories on your Profile page if you choose, however this will affect both short and long term awareness of Feynman-2 around your learning.
• Canvas Interactivity builds on top of our partnership with Desmos and developer relations with TLDraw, allowing for two-way interaction with canvas elements.
  • Be on the lookout for upgrades to the canvas in coming weeks, as we track usage and behavior on the Canvas, however these will be rolling out to Premium users first.

Additionally, the following capabilities are available to users with Opennote Premium:

• Diffusion Visualizations, providing a broader display set for visualization, allowing for queries to display non-STEM focused content in hyper-realistic ways.
• Tracked Memory allows for students on the premium tier to facilitate all their learning through Opennote, from note-taking to practice problems to canvas actions and chats.
• Unlimited Usage of Tools: Certain tools mentioned above will be rolled out in limited states or with certain daily usage numbers as we track the abilities of Feynman-2. However, on Premium you can enjoy full unrestricted use of Feynman-2's offerings.

With this release, Feynman-1 has been sunset on the platform and will remain in our research archives for future releases, however Feynman-1's Video Capabilities are still intact and compatible with Feynman-2. More details on upgrades to that system will follow in the coming weeks.
